I've been watching Firefly again, and I started wondering: how could we simulate the madness of River in Gurps? What mental disadvantages does the poor girl have?
Confused (12) [-10]: I dunno. On the one hand, River cheerfully dances with lots of strangers amidst loud music (right before she's kidnapped), which doesn't really support Confused. Then again, I got the impression that River responds poorly to potentially confusing situations. Not sure. Flashbacks (Mild) [-5]: To simulate her uncontrollable psionics? I don't think she gets Flashbacks as such, but she certainly sees things no one else does. Impulsiveness (12) [-10]: This is a definite. River acts without considering her actions first. Nightmares (12) [-5]: Nuff said. Oblivious [-5]: When she "fixes" Books bible, River doesn't understand how this will hurt his feelings. Precognition: Well, sure. It's not a disad, but it's uncontrollable and it lets her appear as mad. Still, we don't have covered her really weird actions: slashing Jane, frex. Even all of the above don't do her madness justice, somehow. What do you think - how to simulate Rivers madness?
