I have a car with two front facing weapons. I take a big hit coming in from the front. It finishes off my armor, but still has 5 damage points left. I roll 50/50 to determine which weapon takes the hit. The damage finishes off all 3 DP of the weapon, and the remaining DPs hit the next location inward, which is my powerplant. Clear enough so far.
A few phases later I take another salvo coming in from the front. Front armor is gone. The outermost layer of components is weapons, but one of the two forward facing weapons was destroyed earlier, as stated above. Question: doe the new salvo automatically finish off the remaining forward gun before burying itself in the powerplant, or is there a 50% chance that the damage sails through the pile of shrapnel that used to be the other weapon, and all hits the powerplant? I'm pretty sure the remaining gun takes the damage automatically, but neither the pocket box nor CCW nor the Compendium seem to be very explicit here. [Battletech /now/ explicitly calls out that if you roll a damaged critical hit slot, you reroll (both dice, in 12-slot locations) - which is equivalent to the first reading and is evidence that that reading would have seemed reasonable and even intuitive to the early 80's audience. I don't recall if Battletech called this out as clearly back then, but I know my circle of acquaintances and I played this wrong, in one way or another, for quite a while. ] Quote:
