I'm trying to figure out how to equip my character with a collapsible "quarterstaff", similar to the weapon wielded by Marcus on Babylon 5, season 4. What would its stats be?

It would have the same stats as a normal quarterstaff, but cost a bit more. Personally, I'd charge about 10% more, and require it to be made of either a form of metal or platic if it collapses via technology. If it's magical, I'd price it as a weapon enchanted with contract object.

Umm... make a quarterstaff collapsible for +$1.00? That sounds like a real bargain.

Ah, I'd forgotten the quarterstaff is so cheap; most of the other polearms are around $100. Even then that's probably too cheap. The reason I'd said 10% was that is the point cost for the switchable enhancement, but costing extra points is very different from costing extra money.

How collapsable are we looking at? from a 6 foot staff down to a 2 foot baton? Or smaller than that? If it collapses down to about 2.5 feet, I'd say it's pretty plausible, and should be available in a few different varieties.
Cheapest: A few tubes of PVC pipe, with studs, grooves and some form of locking mechanism. Cost about a $100, at most. However, you'd also probably need to take multiple ready manuevers to extend or contract. More Expensive: Springloaded steel tubes, with buttosn that cause the baton to instantly spring into quarterstaff. Free action to ready as a quarter staff, takes a ready action to shorten into a baton. Probably $500, give or take a bit. Most Expensive: battery operated motors extend or retract the tubes within each other. Free Action to extend or retract. $1000. Damage may need to be adjusted(-1) due to the less rigid and massive materials and construction used. |

It would be more fragile too. It may even require a "Malf" stat.
