And also that he can keep the bow in hand as long as he likes:

ITL 117 "You may “parry” with a bow or crossbow – but it will be ruined!"

Since dropping and changing weapons is a different action, this means dropping the bow is the action taken the following action phase. Sometimes, if you are certain you will be attacked, it is better to change weapons before getting engaged.
