Use disadvantages to balance out advantages purchased at start or during play.
Take as one example my character Dame Sandra Irving, 12 year old orphan of one of the Duke's knights. Her big estate and dozen vassals makes her extremely wealthy in TFT terms, but she can't trade this all in for a bunch of magic items because she's got Youth and Trust Fund. Should she somehow not get eaten by an octopus (good luck avoiding that fate), she will one day be considered an adult and have the disadvantages of Duty, Dependents and Enemies (mostly social, but at least one tribe of gargoyles will never forgive her).
