“MA” rating for someone wearing cloth armor is?
Edulf wears cloth armor his MA is? On page 8 it starts MA with no armor 10, then leather armor 8. Page 21 covers ma of monsters... I did a quick look on the web, nothing. So here I am at the forum asking. While I await a response I will put the game back in the box and find something else to do on this rainy day. I was hoping I would not get hung up on details so quickly. Thank You |

So cloth armor is considered no armor so MA is 10. Why not say Ed has no armor then. So treat cloth armored character as none.

Cloth armor is armor; it provides a point of protection vs. physical attacks from all directions just like any other armor. And it reduces your adj. DX. It just doesn't reduce your MA.

Clothing or a wizard's robe: four pounds of weight that is ignored while worn, no protection, no restriction on DX or MA.
Cloth armor: Quilted tunics to buckskin. 14 pounds of flexible all over protection that stops one hit, reduces DX by one, has no effect on MA or Unarmed Combat (other than the DX reduction restricting higher level UC). Leather armor: boiled or layered leather or such. 16 pounds of much less flexible protection that stops two hits, reduces DX by two, reduces MA by two and prohibits Unarmed Combat. If you want to wear heavy boots while doing martial arts then play GURPS.

Thank you for the cloth armor stats. The in formation. It came from another product in the Fantasy Trip “I want it all” box? I only ask because I was unable to find that information in the Melee box

Melee rules page 14:
Leather armor takes 2 hits/attack; wearer’s MA = 8; -2 to DX. Cloth armor takes 1 hit/attack; wearer’s MA = 10; -1 to DX No armor: MA = 10, no hits stopped, no DX penalty.

Thank you HCobb. Page 14 did not disappoint. Guess I need to be more persistent when reading through the rules.

Don't worry it's a common mistake when starting with a new game. Get a fast read, start playing solo or with someone else to learn the basics, don't get to focused in the details or to play the game perfectly, just to grasp the basics and have fun. Then read the rules again and see what you missed...

chop your way thru death test 1+2 with a buncha green players and go all rules-lawyer crazy during play (players read real careful when theyre taking damage) .. by the end youll have a great grip on the thing. TFT is very simple once youve got it, and stuff not covered in the rules are natural to intuit. Its slightly like chess, deceptively simple rules, potentially very complex emergent outcomes
