Why wander into the curse of the Swamp?

The setup for the adventure is that the impossible necromancer octopus does a Calling-Human spell and the PCs follow the hapless victim into the swamp at night.

The open question is who is this person that would motivate the PCs to do something so obviously suicidal?

I'm leaning towards the young granddaughter of their patron, but that's too cliche even for me.
