Need clarification.

I was playing with friends the other day and I had 3 allies and avenger affinity. I had She-Hulk, Black Widow and Hulk. The avengers affinity allows me to play She-Hulk and Black Widow, and Black Widow allows me to play Hulk. I then drew Captain America and the issues started here. All my ally slots are taken, but he gives a additional one. Can he be played or must I discard a ally? To simplify, you have 1 ally, you get Captain America, can you play him without discarding the other ally? Same goes for cards like Nick Fury and Black Widow (if the ally you have is male)
