Default Summon Bigger Fish, er Snake

It's literally pick your poison. The boring old Staff to Snake spell gains additional powers as your staff does.

Staff II The snake now has a ST equal to whatever its mana level is, once the wizard invests at least one mana into his staff. Once this mana investment has been made the snake can now draw on this mana for an occult attack of 1d for 1 fatigue that bypasses the target's natural (but not magical) armor. Or it can use its usual attack as the wizard pleases.

Staff III The snake's occult strike is now range 2 at DX +3. The snake now has the protection of Stone Skin. Killing the snake still breaks your staff.

Staff IV The wizard can transform his staff into a snake of whatever species he has knowledge of that fits the ST of his mana. Naturalist wizards are naturally scary.

Staff V The snake form is stable and switches back and forth at no cost other than a turn's concentration by the wizard. The snake speaks whatever languages the wizard knows. Keeping a hungry monster snake around all the time may annoy the local farmers.
