A YouTuber named Jim Murphy has been supporting The Fantasy Trip with several videos. Here is his most recent one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVnrGKyFwv8 And here is the comment I left underneath (Go TFT!): Cue the dramatic music and the distinctive voice of Mako: "Between the time when Gygax the Great first rolled the many-sided dice and the rise of Jackson the Giant-slayer's offspring known as GURPS, there was a game undreamed of: The Fantasy Trip -- designed to roll the cubical D6 with a troubled brow. It is those who have played this game for nigh on two score decades who alone can tell thee of this saga. Let me tell you of this game of High Adventure!" Hopefully YouTube allows the following links to some helpful pages related to Steve Jackson Games' new rendition of The Fantasy Trip (TFT). The SJ Games home page: http://www.sjgames.com/ An SJ Games "Daily Illuminator" article about TFT: http://www.sjgames.com/ill/archive/2018-07-25 The TFT homepage for News and more: http://thefantasytrip.game/ The SJ Games Forum page for TFT: http://forums.sjgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=100 The Kickstarter page for TFT (please be sure to watch the promotional video on the Kickstarter page): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ng/description YouTube videos from SJ Games demonstrating parts of the TFT game system: -- Character creation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8Mt5jLbn0Q -- One-vs-one Melee combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__WfyvyQVEM&t=4s -- Three-vs-three Melee combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMmCHVO41MM I'm a grizzled, gray-bearded grognard who played TFT back in the 1980s (along with a whole slew of other wargames and RPGs), so I can attest to what Jim is saying. The Kickstarter has already garnered around 500% of its initial support goal. Whether you go easy and just get the PDF for $25, get the PDF plus boxed versions of Melee and Wizard for $30, or go all-in with the complete boxed set of "The Legacy Edition" for $60, I don't think you will be disappointed (unless maybe if you are a die-hard D&D or Pathfinder fan who simply must have the game mechanics of a class-based system).

The video is a tad incoherent, but this time he hits all the high points. He should probably draft an outline script for his videos -- they'd flow a lot smoother. (Not sure what the point of that story about Arneson was...).
Hopefully we'll get a few extra pledges out of this. Last edited by JLV; 07-26-2018 at 03:27 AM. |

These videos show using Melee, Wizard, The Fantasy Trip and the Silver Dragon for solo playing, then using The Classic Dungeon Design Guide to create random dungeon

I've watched several of her videos -- highly informative, but somehow I always feel like I'm sitting in a staff meeting listening to an Accounting or HR presentation during them... ;-)

I am sorry to hear you feel that way JLV.
I saw her stuff quite a time ago, and I appreciate her because she is *so* honestly into our thing. So I had a different reaction to her videos. I actually appreciate how serious she in her reverent approach and organization of her multiple references - She definitely *gets it*; which with your high level of TFT experience I have no doubt you see that too. Heck she even sold me on those "Old Skull" books, and I ended up buying the entire series of those books (which are real good, btw), based solely on what she had to say about them in her TFT videos. And for a total counter-balance to her serious gamer tone - which I personally like - she has those funny little figures like Mr. Peabody and the cats... which makes for such an odd juxtaposition. At our gaming sessions, TFT is *a deadly serious and deadly game* to us, and always has been, but that Mr Peabody of hers just cracks me up like mad when she moves him around the map, because to me, he is so out of place LOL! I have to give her a big Thumbs-Up. JK Last edited by Jim Kane; 07-27-2018 at 01:52 PM. Reason: Typo |
