I'd love to see more heroes that use magic.
I'm hoping you guys remove the -4 DX for non-wizards to cast spells and the -4 DX from iron as well. Warriors with a few spells can be pretty interesting. |

I've long used house rules to soften the divide between wizards and heroes; my preference is that everything works the same way for both, other than costs of talents and spells.

Personally, I kind of like the division between Warrior and Wizard -- it changes the play style needed to make each kind of character a success, and it encourages some roleplaying. Of course, that's my personal opinion, and YMMV.

I've always used a house rule that there are no built in penalties for casting spells if you are not a "wizard" or other penalties for using weapons if you are not a "warrior"
To me the penalties are built into the restrictions on acquiring talents and spells If you want to know a lot of spells, good spells, you simply do not have the resources to know how to use many weapons or armor types and if you want to be a well rounded warrior, learning spells is going to curb your style Then, I added campaign specific rules for certain places in my world that had lower requirements for learning spells if you were not an apprentice of a wizard, and places where wizards had to learn to use some weapons as a matter of cultural pride (changing up the IQ cost requirements to suit my campaign) |

Thanks Rick. I just skimmed through AW and missed that. We always thought the 3xIQ to learn a spell was enough for non-Wizards.
