Going through Identifont, Monotype Dante (©1954, 1957, 1993) seems to be a pretty good fit. It matches the non-italic face pretty tightly.

One thing to bear in mind is that scanning tends to thicken character strokes and fill in the counters (the holes inside characters like “o” or “b”). So a scanned version of TFT may distort the typeface enough to cause mistakes in identifying the font. The best choice is to use the actual printed book when trying to assess the typeface used. Also, Dante has a distinctive capital T - the serifs on the horizontal stroke (the top) of the T rise above and drop below the horizontal stroke. Garamond has similar characteristics. The typeface used in ITL does not have that. Last edited by tbeard1999; 03-14-2018 at 08:51 PM. |

So the funny thing is that there kinda IS a TFT font family. If you use OCR on a scanned TFT document in Acrobat, and have the ClearScan option checked, Acrobat will create a font family on the fly, just for that document. That font family can be said to be the "TFT font". Of course, it can't be exported or used in another document. And the font family may have dozens of discrete typefaces. |

Well here's the thing Ty, I am just looking for something REALLY close, but it doesnt have to pass microscope inspection. I sure would love to re-edit all my stuff on TFT into TFT font, so close enough for hand-grenades and horseshoes would be great Who knew such a thing would stymie so many LOL! |

I meant use the actual TFT books when matching typefaces. The typefaces on scanned documents are distorted from the scanning - they are heavier, almost semi-bold.

One of the aspects of using the scan is looking at it zoomed way in to check some of the features. |
