Player gets to take three cards from me... Is these cards for my choice or his, or they are random?

The card should have specified, but I know they had limited space. Because it doesn't say whether they are cards from in play or in the hand, I'm ruling the cards can come from either place - but cards taken from the hand are not revealed before the selection. (So it's effectively random.)
