I think dobbleganger only doubles the characters level of his or her level..

Doppleganger doubles your combat strength. Your combat strength is your Level, your used items and any other bonuses.

Combat Strength is defined in the rules as your level plus all your bonuses. The card is already very wordy, so there isn't really room to spell it out directly.
