Direct to Video Sequel

ok, combat ends this card is played- do they get the levels and treasure then start combat?

combat final phase is resolving levels and treasure but with the level(s) and treasure(s) the 2 victims were strong enough to beat the 3 monsters (And his little friends..).

We played that the levels and treasure were given then combat restarted, but that seems off.

As is stated by Andrew in this thread, you resolve the second combat before dealing out the rewards of the first (but, you do get the rewards of the first, if you had gotten some and hadn't Run Away).
