This may seem like a ridiculous question, but I'm going to go ahead and ask it anyway. On B274, the katana is shown in the Two-Handed Sword section, it requires ST 10, and is marked with a cross signifying it requires two hands. The description of the cross symbol says that if you have 1.5 times the required ST, you can use the weapon in one hand, but it becomes unready after you attack with it. Got it. That makes sense.
What is confusing is that on B271, a katana is also listed in the Broadsword section, but this time, the required ST is 11, it is not marked with a cross symbol, and the Parry column does not include a "U" signifying it as an unbalanced weapon. Now, the katana in both cases has the same cost and weight, so I am led to believe they are the same weapon; however, it does not make sense to me that I can use a katana with Broadsword skill as a one-handed weapon when as a two-handed weapon it says THE SAME WEAPON requires 1.5 times the ST score to wield it one-handed. So, what gives? Is this a known discrepancy or is there some logical explanation that I am missing here? (NOTE: I ask because I am currently GMing a game where one character owns a katana and has been using it one handed, but I don't think this is legit given the explanation of the cross symbol and the fact that the katana appears to require two hands to wield.) |
