Karate Parries and dodge penalties.

Question!

Since fencing parries are affected by dodge penalties such as encumberance, reeling, etc, does this apply to Karate and Judo parries as well, as those basically get their bonuses from the same source?

I'd also like to know if reeling was intended to affect fencing to begin with? It isn't specifically listed. I know it gives a speed penalty, not sure if that counts as a dodge penalty.

I thought Boxing was unusual because it does not take such penalties, and Karate and Judo explicitly did . . . but then . . . ah!

Martial Arts, p. 55, under the skill entry for Boxing.

"There’s rarely a reason to learn Boxing if you know
Karate. However, encumbrance penalizes attacks and parries
with Karate but not with Boxing. Karate-users who
believe that they could end up fighting unarmed while clad
in heavy armor might therefore wish to invest in Boxing as

Being at less than 1/3 HP only affects Dodge, AFAIK. Can you give me a page reference for it affecting mobile parries? Or do you mean something else by "reeling"? I can't find it used in another context.

parry-and-dodge, factors that limit Dodge ought to affect

Martial Arts 122 seems to imply that reeling would affect parry dodges.

It affects speed, which by reducing speed reduces your dodge calculation.

Reeling:

Halve your Basic Speed and Move (round up), which also reduces your Dodge.

It's not a dodge penalty, by having less speed (6 going down to 3) you only get 3 + 3 (+ other modifiers) to dodge now instead of 3 + 6 + *.

In my opinion, if someone with 3 speed to begin with isn't getting reduced karate from it, why should a person who is normally 6 speed and gets reduced to 3 have a penalty to their Karate?

Being at less than 1/3 HP isn't a "maneuver, technique, or other combat option". It also isn't a penalty. It halves dodge, treating it as penalty to mobile parries would be difficult (though not impossible) to implement. It's a reasonable house rule, but I don't think that it's actually the intent of RAW. I've certainly never imposed it.

That doesn't even talk about halving speed... what the...

Edit: This is under effects of injury B.380. This one seems to be right to me, but then again, they do contradict each other.
