Basic Munchkin Hireling question

I've searched through all the questions regarding hirelings, and I did not see the answer to this specific question. If i've missed it, apologies :-)

Been playing muchkin for a week or two now, and the question about the hireling just came up. I'm a elven cleric with a hireling on the board. Can i play Kneepads of allure on the hireling? Or is the default hireling considered the same race/class as the player?

If you're talking about the card Hireling, it says that it allows you to use an Item you otherwise could not. Essentially, the Hireling is a Cheat! card with a +1 bonus that you can discard to escape from the Monsters. So, in the case you provided, a Cleric with Hireling could give the Hireling the Kneepads of Allure so that the Cleric could use it.
