With or without a dice?

First time I play the game it was at my friends house and we play with dice (in batte the player and the monster use it for "luck"in battle).
Then I bought the game and read the rules => no dice in the rules :/

So with or without a dice in battle?

No die. The Munchkin card game has never used a die to determine a random combat bonus without the use of a specific card that provides a bonus based on a die roll. Your friend was clearly using a house rule.
