Flask of Glue - "kill/defeat" vs "escape"

simple scenario,

I fight a monster and successfully defeat it with my armor, level, weapons etc. without using any potions or spells.
Then someone plays "Flask of Glue."

Now, "Flask of Glue" explicitly says the word "escape"

Does Flask of Glue apply in this scenario? Is successfully killing/defeating a monster considered escaping it also? I don't imagine it does... It would make sense that the term "escape" only means that I attempted to run away, and succeeded in doing so.
