Default GURPS character sheet -- windows 7 grrr

Hi,

GURPS character sheet appears to have to be installed on the Windows program folder.

Inside the Windows program folder it seems to be practically impossible to actually add files.

I want to add files to the Data folder. I go to permissions and turn off read only and change it to write and it changes back. It asks me if it is ok and I say yes. Then I open it up again and its blank.

I know this is mainly a windows 7 issue however I can't figure out how to make a work around.

Is it possible to put the data file somewhere else and have the program reference it there (without having to do all kinds of crazy things every time I turn on the program to reference it).

Basically can I create a folder somewhere else for character sheet. Call it Data file and have the character sheet program reference folders there automatically instead.

I didn't move GCS when I updated to Windows 7, so you should be able to just paste the entire folder to wherever you would like and only use the one in the Program Folder as a backup.

Or just change the permissions of the datafile folder for gcs, i had to to this for some older applications.

Baylor Patch,

Thanks for that advice I may try that next.

Woodman,

You said you changed permissions on several data files on some older programs. How did you do it? Every time I try to change them they automatically change back.

It's not the disk permissions on the folder - the big problem is that you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in with an account with admin permissions and you should be fine.

In that case, you might also check the GCS executable file's "run as administrator" box in Properties.

Why do you think that? It can be installed anywhere, under any folder, on any drive.
