FAQ made me confused about Ranch Hand

The FAQ states:
"Q. If I choose to keep the Ranch Hand as a sidekick and not kill him, do I still gain the three treasures?
A. No. You can get him as as an extra Sidekick or you can take the levels and treasures, but not a combination of the two."

The card itself states:
"If you defeat the Ranch Hand, you can either count him as a kill and go up a level, or keep him as a Sidekick. You get the Treasure either way."

Don't these directly contradict each other? My card is from 1st edition, 4th printing, July 2012. Honestly I wasn't even wondering about this card, I went on the FAQ for a separate question I had. But seeing this in the FAQ threw me off.
