Instant wall card question

Today my brother, husband and I were playing and we were all level 9 (WAR!)
so when he drew a level 4 monster I had to stop him. I played the Instant Wall card to make HIM escape the monster. It was a last ditch effort and we all just agreed since it says "usable during ANY fight" that it was okay to use.

For future reference, it that a legal move?
