So... next in my "Reinventing monsters" series - I am very tired of the romantic vampire. He is no longer scary. In fact, he's boring. Stake him and go on.
I have two general ideas about reinvention. One is to go back to the roots and use the Nosferatu - the plaguebringer. Maybe he does it because he can only feed on the sick? Maybe he gets his kicks that way? Or maybe he can gain power by killing people with the plague? In 1921, after the Spanish Flu had ravaged the world, the fear of epidemics should be well developed. The other type I'd like to explore is the addict. The person who has traded his future - his potential - for the rush that drinking blood gives him. Maybe he has consorted with a demon and been granted eternal life, but depriving him of any ability to do something with that life. Imagine an artist who wants to live forever - but finds that whatever he creates after his transformation is banale and meaningless? Yet the lure of the blood draws him and sustains him...
