Save and edit templates

Two related questions.

When I create a new template in GCA there is an option to save it to a datafile. doing this does not appear to actually save the results of the template wizard - as when you have that data file loaded and choose that template the wizard starts again.

How do you edit an existing template within GCA? I know how to disable parts of it, but how to edit a template and then save it as a new version?

Presumably I can do it all via text editing off line, but hoping I have missed a better way.
