Default Potion of Halitosis & Floating Nose

Hey everyone, I have a quick scenario that has come up a couple of times while playing Munchkin with my friends. I have the potion of halitosis but someone else draws the floating nose and fights it. In previous games, I instantly used the potion to "kill" it and receive the level and treasure, but it has been brought to my attention that killing the nose that someone else is fighting with my potion does not give ME the level and treasure. In one case, I have gotten the winning level through this move.

My interpretation of the rules is that the killer of the monster gets the reward. In the event of a combat with a helper, why does the helper not get levels? I say that since the rules explicitly say that the helper does not get the levels, then that is sufficient to overrule the argument that the helper killed the monster with the other player. In the case of the potion, I think that this is one of the cards that the rules mention overrules the rules.

The player whose turn it is gets any rewards for killing the monsters. (The ONLY exception is if you engage in a combat, as the main fighter, when it is not your turn, such as by being the "beneficiary" of the Transferral Potion.)

Helpers never get rewards on their own unless a card specifically says you get a reward for helping, such as the Elf card does.

would you mind letting me know where in the rules it says that the engager of the fight/whoever's turn it is is the one who gets the rewards?

The entire Combat section is worded such that the instructions apply to the player whose turn it is. Those instructions tell that player to discard the Monster(s) and receive the rewards. However, I feel the quoted section below is more than sufficient to make it more than clear who receives the rewards when the Monsters are defeated.

You draw the Treasure cards, even if it was your helper’s special ability that defeated the monster.
