I've only play a few sessions of GURPS, and I don't have the book (yet) or know of any sites that have the advantages/disadvantages/skills listed. So I come here asking for help on how to build a character I want to play as; a Mantis Shrimp.
My group is using the fourth edition books, and at the start we have 150 Character Points, any extra points have to come from disadvantages. As I've said I don't have the books, or know of any sites, so I don't know most of the advantages/disadvantages/skills, and even then I don't what I would need. I know I need: Exoskeleton, Extra Limbs, 360 Vision, and someone said something about enhanced vision. I might get Extra Attack if I have leftover points. So does anyone know of any other advantages that would be helpful to me? Specifically I'm looking for stuff that can help with defense rolls, attack rolls, and what would be needed to actually be able to do the Mantis Shrimp's Mega-Punch. Failing that does anyone have a link to a build of an insect man? |

I'm assuming that you've seen the recent Mantis Shrimp thread. In addition to the stuff discussed there, you're going to need the exclusive versions of Amphibious [0] and Gills [0], as well as a bunch of Extra Legs [Various]. The real advantage of this creature is that it hits much harder than most things of its size, which is pretty significant but fairly straightforward to render.

Right off, you should look at this thread, it has some starting material.
Defense rolls mostly split into two types: parry/block, and dodge. Animals mostly don't parry, but a nonhuman PC with limbs certainly could. To improve parry or block defenses, you mostly pick up skill. To improve dodge, increase Basic Speed. There are also Enhanced Defense advantages that could be used, but I wouldn't. Attack rolls...just buy skill, is the main thing. The punch is probably best as an Innate Attack.

Download a copy of GURPs Lite http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/lite/ to help get started. Won't cover all of what you need, you are building a odd character but will help.

150 is either too much for an actual Mantis Shrimp (which isn't sapient and is below the GURPS ST/HP scale anyway) or too little for a Mantis Shrimp themed superhero or similar (which would probably be in the ballpark of 800+ points).
150 points is for a "Starting Adventurer" and IME is what you want for generally normal people (significantly better prepared than average) who are at the start of an adventure story. I suspect there's some assumption clash going on here about what kind of campaign this is supposed to be. |

Do you want to play a normal sized Mantis Shrimp that is somehow (magically?) sapient or a giant (heh) shrimp? The former is doable on 150 points, the latter probably isn't at least in any way that will produce a character that you are likely to happy with.

Also this is extremely unrelated, but one of my friend's next character is going to be a magical megalomaniac muffin who believes it has already taken over the world. Right now he is playing a guy who shoots bullets from his fingers. |
