Three things:
1) We've seen this here before. 2) They're actually pretty dead-on with regard to Mark Rein * Hagen. 3) D&D abstractifies hit points to an extent that they're supposed to include dodged blows. In GURPS, I can break kneecaps. 'Nuff said. |

I started to glaze over by the end of that, its just a "I play this way, this is the only way to play" argument, which I've heard more than enough of in my time.
I don't mind combat simulators, but games can do so much more than that now - and I'll happily accept being an Unreal Man or Real Woman if it means I can play those games too. Incidentally, Unreal Men realise the virtues of their dice producing bell curve outputs as opposed to a linear ones on their novelty sided dice. Just sayin'.

Could've been, I've been overly busy today and the subtlety might have been lost on me. I will admit not finishing the article and skimming the latter half I did read - either way, I'm totally championing the term 'Unreal Man'.

Real men don't need 1297 Hit points on their barbarian to be effective. And they don't die/fall because they have negative HP

If you read that text with a straight face, you risk having to deal with Article F19.1: Game System Flamage. Read without a straight face, I kinda like the reply with the kneecaps.

I propose this becomes the "Real Men (who play GURPS)..." thread. I'll start.
Real Men don't settle for combat skill of less than 14 in any situation. Real Men not only know the Speed/Range table and all the Hit Locations by heart, but can do the math in The Deadly Spring in their heads on the fly. Real Men can build a psychic blueberry muffin without referencing any of the books, and get all the point values and relevant modifiers correct. Real Men know how to use any of those mamby-pampy frou-frou multi-polygon dice to give 3d6 results like God intended.
