Unless it happens to be more expensive to treat heavier chunks of metal. In any case, the main reason hardened is a cost multiplier is because there was a design decision made at some point (which LT is probably not responsible for) that all kinds of gear mods should be represented as Cost Factors. It produces a wide variety of weird effects.

In Low-Tech, DR 4 plate armor for the chest would cost $1,125 and weigh 9 lbs (take DR3 Light Plate and use the Heavy Plate rule to add +1 DR).

No idea why the massive difference in pricing.

page 17 of Low tech instant armor gives you the listing for using steel.

but yeah, the listing price is a little high.

I think it should be priced (Steel, Hardened) at around $200.
I simply used the numbers from the top of page 109 LowTech and the coverage for Torso. LowTech $1,500. Armor Design $15,000, ie simply thicker iron covering an unrealistic full torso used for a price comparison.

I have, however, edited my applicable listings for TL10 armor to cover only the Chest and added a line for upscaled scale faulds (from LT:IA) where they may be wanted. Keeping Lowtech Weight, but dropping price by 60%, and using 10x listed DR. Instead of creating complex and probably meaningless* tables of numbers to tack on to the beauty of Armor Design, I'm just gonna do it the lazy way. The TL10 SCA'ers won't mind. *meaningless coz I'll misunderstand something, get the numbers wrong and create something ludicrous.

A bit of both. A bad harvest of course could hurt any farm activity . Chickens do forage though and aren't super picky.

Its granted much easier with store bought feed. Still medieval farms and agriculture supported a large robust economy with trade and enough surplus to support a healthy class of parasites.

There was plenty for chicken feed.

They also love it when you drop an egg. They acted like it was the most delicious thing in the world. A bit disturbing for my childhood clumsiness.

They would eat you if they could, Flyn.

Hey, one liked me. It was a strange hybrid of a fighting chicken and a domestic farm hen. It didn't run like a normal chicken though. I called it half road runner.
The others... yeah... less trustworthy than many cats.

On the chicken farming thing, somebody mentioned the number of dogs a household could maintain for free, so what's the swap out raito for dogs to chickens?
