Last night my friends and I played Munchkin with expansions 2 (Unnatural Axe), 3 (Clerical Errors), and 6 (Demented Dungeons). We had a blast and the game was fresh again. I really like dungeon cards, very cool.
At any rate, we ran into an issue that just so happened to occur at an interesting point in the game. 4-player game. Everyone was level 9, and it was my turn. I kicked down the door to face a level-19 monster (which was reduced to 11 thanks to penalties against elf race). My combat strength at that point was 19, which was about average for everyone except one person who had no gear, thus was a 9. In order to prevent me from winning, someone played a curse card (originating from deck 2 or 3, not exactly sure) which reanimated the first monster in the discard pile as undead and brought it into the combat. A level-11 moster was drawn, thus I was down 22 - 19 at this point. The extraordinary wrinkle here is that the curse card was played while we were in the "Dungeon of Comprehensive Curses" which makes any curse applicable to all players. The wording of the curse stated that the undead monster "joined" the current monster in combat. So, basically, we found ourselves in a situation where, according to our understanding, we each were in combat concurrently, a first for our home game. The way we appraoched it was by me fighting first (charmed one, defeated the other), then the player to my left and so on until we each had our combat. When all was said and done, two of us had gained 2 levels in our respective combat and were tied 11-11. Has anyone else encountered a multiple battle scenario like this? Thanks for the clarification. Just so I have this clear:
Each player draws their own monster? Also, is the part of the curse card that states the newly drawn monster will join any monsters in combat only applicable to the main player who is actually in combat? Or does each player have to fight currently combating monsters due to the "joins monster" clause? For example, let's say I'm in combat with a level-1 potted planted, we are in the DoCC, and the same curse is played in the same scenario. Does everyone also fight the potted plant, since the curse dictates the new undead joins any monster in combat? I hope that makes sense! |

The other players are not in combat at the time the curse hits them. Therefore there is no monster for their monster to join.

That makes sense. How about the monsters drawn from the discard pile? Does each player draw their own, or does each player fight the same monster, but seperately?

To help clarify all the answers, here's the way to interpret your exact situation, which started with you fighting the two other monsters alone when you were hit by the curse:
Oh, and you couldn't be tied 11-11 unless you were also in the Dungeon of Extra Effort. The maximum Level you can have is 10 otherwise. Regardless if you were in that Dungeon or not, you both would share victory, though. |

But FAQ says we cannot have a bunch of combats going all at once, we're going to punt and say that Clerical Error cannot be made Comprehensive. No?

The combats aren't going on at the same time. They are just pending to happen immediately after the previous one finishes. And yes, it was similarly ruled the same way recently as Blazinjsin points out.
Yes, it is in direct conflict with the following FAQ question involving the same combination of cards, but I believe the ruling has changed after the FAQ in this case, due to that other thread: Quote:
