It's always optional, but it can be a lot of fun, and it encourages research, which is a very good thing IMO.
Haven't had a chance to pick up MH3 yet. Are there actually "real-world 'demon-hunting manuals'" to be found out there? I imagine some might be listed in the Bibliography...

Yes, though they're not labeled as such. I'm referring to the hand-written tomes painstakingly kept by old religious orders (the Catholic Church has many) that describe specific demons at great lengths. Some of those old orders took "fighting demons" very seriously -- though, to be honest, the vast majority of these demons were incorporeal spirits that possessed people (often loose women or other "morally bankrupt" folks) and their weaknesses were specific chants.

Individual MH books don't get their own bibliography. The only official flimography and bibliography for Monster Hunters can be found in Pyramid #3/31: Monster Hunters.

I've just discovered that there are an entire class of alloys of gold, sliver and copper. They go under the names of Electrum, Goloid, Orichalcum, Corinthian Bronze, Shakudo and Hepatizon.

The later got my attention, as it literally translates from the Greek as 'liver'. The possibilities for confusion and mayhem...
