Re: [MH] A character archetype I feel is kinda missing - infiltrator batman type
QFT
creating a batman like character is and will be a disaster. He is/has too much going on and would cost too many points, even a watered down version. instead of giving him 15+ att all around you can do 13 across the board. then you would have to give him very fit, combat reflexes, versatile, rapid healing, flexible, ambidexterity, fearlessness, hard to subdue and kill. then skills would be a mess, combine the sleuth and the warrior and the commando skill list to get what he might have. of course if you are gm'ing for one person you might want them to be batman... |

That said, if you're not trying to replicate Batman exactly, here's what a combination Scout/Sleuth looks like with decent combat abilities. My PC for Mark's upcoming MH game. Though we're using a house rule that gives a free 20 points in techniques and perks, so technically he's a 420 point character.

The only genre he really fits in at ALL in this realm would be Black Ops, which posits an entire cadre of Batmen. The only issue with Mr Bats himself is that unlike Black Ops, who have a niche where they're even better on top of a baseline of merely being experts, is that Batman is great at everything.
On the other hand, Security Ops had no recognizable niche; perhaps Bats would make a good 1000 point Security Op. :-)

Re: [MH] A character archetype I feel is kinda missing - infiltrator batman type
The key to making a PC-analog to someone like Batman is that he doesn't have to be Batman (and arguably, shouldn't). You choose one archetype to play up, then you throw a few points in other areas, enough that he can cavalierly defeat "normal" people but not enough to fill the niche of another PC in that role. So, for instance, you could start with the Sleuth, juggle a few points around, and add Guilt Complex and Nightmares, and use the extra points to buy extracurricular skills, or obscene wealth, or whatever.

Really? A JLA campaign?
IMO, there's only so much you can do with Luck, Serendipity, etc. to avoid being smashed by fugitive-hunting alien ultra-robots, ripped apart by gene-engineered pack-hunting cold-blooded bio-weapons, or destroyed by the focused psychic force beams of a sentient energy pattern-crystal structure.

Re: [MH] A character archetype I feel is kinda missing - infiltrator batman type
Thanks a lot for the help so far.
First thing first - I certainly don't mean for the character to *be* Batman in anyway. I gave Batman as the example so to show what kind of approach and attitude the character should have, scaled down to that of a 400 point member-of-a-team size. These being that he's adept at moving through night and difficult terrain, that he's fighty but has to rely on suprise and gadgetry and that he tends towards being 'well rounded'. That lone-wolf characters make no sense in MH is a very fair point, however there are lone-wolves who simply have a fun shtick that I'd like to reduce to a party member character. Being nimble, prepared and using exotic weapons is definitely that. I agree that the Sleuth template is pretty much closest to what I want. I guess what I want is a Sleuth that eschews the social and cerebral aspects of the template and instead focuses on movement, physical aspects of infiltration and being a 'swashbuckling', 'rapid response', 'light infantry' combatant. And someone who can, as far as combat goes shoot alongside the commando just not as good and fight alongside the warrior just not as good. Another way I see the character is being a 'lower tech/non-military commando'. Commando is good with all guns and military stuff. This guy I'm thinking would be more about shotguns, crossbows, improvised booby traps and so on. Specialist in all those weapons specific to the genre, really. I like the scout character posted there, I think that with the advice here overall I'll be able to manage. Thanks everyone:) |
