Session 4 of Castle of Horrors deals with gargoyle slaying, negotiating with mind controlling wizards, exploration, and the difficult question of where do you sleep for the night in a haunted castle?

Session 5 of Castle of Horrors demonstrates that the problem with sleeping in a haunted castle is that it's full of ghosts. It's kind of obvious when you think about it. It also demonstrates that against flesh and blood targets, modern rifles beat spells, swords, and magic bows.

Session 6 of Castle of Horrors deals with running away (repeatedly) from an undead ooze, a pot of gold, and various explorations of the titular castle.

It looks like I've fallen behind in updating this thread.

Session 7 of Castle of Horrors continued the fight with the skeletons and end with the oddest duel against an axe-obsessed crazy.
http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.com...session-7.html

Session 8 was mostly another fight against undead, this time in the form of horrible mists that possessed dead bodies and animated them as zombies. My players were convinced shooting the zombies in the head would stop them and they turned out to be wrong.
http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.com...session-8.html

Session 9 involved the PCs camping in the courtyard overnight and being ambushed by leprechauns using vials of Alchemist's Fire. While this was a valid way to use the PCs' tactics against them, the fight dragged on for a number of reasons and this was not a good session. It provoked a lot of discussion on Doug's blog about shot clocks and doing stuff.
http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.com...session-9.html

Last night's session saw the first use of the shot clock concept, and the one combat that happened went a lot faster for that.

This week's session of Castle of Horrors has an interesting example of the PCs doing what they must to avoid splitting the party, and some discussion about running a sandbox game with a group that needs a bit of guidance:

I write up some thoughts on using separate currencies for buying magic items and mundane gear in Dungeon Fantasy:

Four more sessions of Castle of Horror:

Session 12 saw the PCs explore the Castle catacombs, be subjected to a curse that teleported them into an underground river, and then forced to fight a bunch of highly surprised Spheres of Madness

Session 13 had the PCs defeat the Spheres and explore the new area they were in, culminating in a fight against a group of pixie ghouls:

Sessions 14 and 15 continued the fight against the pixie ghouls, including a spell slinging leader who damaged a great deal of their equipment. The PCs eventually triumphed and continued exploring the Castle:

The 17th session of Castle Horrors deals with magic statues, hunting vampires, and a battle royal between gunmen, vampires, and nigh immortal axeman. Good stuff, and a fitting capstone to the 3rd expedition to the castle.

Next week, we're shifting to an X-Com game in which a bunch of underprepared hunters get murdered while investigating a UFO. I'm playing one of the hunters and looking forward to it.

I'm been experimenting with After the End, and in the process discovered that GURPS has a bunch of different sets of stats for body armor. I complain about the difficulty for me of using any of them.

Ill admit Ive mostly just used Low Tech / High Tech / Ultra Tech myself . . . . I always thought Better Fantasy Armor was interesting, but always seemed more complex than the very simple Low Tech rules
