(IC) Lost in Dreams (Julian)

The man thinks for a while, and asks


"Where are you planning to go after here? Surely you aren't going to stay."


After hearing the answer* the man says "Stay here. on orders of the <fancy name in something that is very much not riask>. For at least ten days. Or you will be considered a spy. "



*I presume you won't surprise me too much here.

I try to not sound too sarcastic. "Yes sir."

"Then if you go, get far far away from here."


The man does a little more inspecting around the village, and then takes off in a jump and a gust of wind.



The others eye Julian. Especially the adults who talked with the flying warrior. They seem to always be watching him as he goes back to work.

I quietly stew now that apparently everyone's decided I'm a spy. Maybe I shouldn't have pointed out the ship and let the town be taken by surprise.

right. that's the action that triggered allegations of spying. totally.



The boys don't seem to have noticed anything, and Julian gets as much food as he always does.



Everyone continues working slowly in the fields.



Does he have anything to do the rest of that day?

I mean I'm sort of leaning towards that or 'speaking Riask', though this is more 'Grumpy Julian feels unfairly treated'.

Not really.

The day drags on. The village eats their evening meal, and everyone goes to bed. Julian doesn't dream.

In the morning, the routine looks much the same: get up, watch the rain (in another new location), and work all day. The day after that isn't much different. People begin to unwind. No one is missing, somehow. But the people watching Julian don't unwind for some reason: he's being watched.

I meander, sketch trees, learn words, and try to practice dancing. I make a note that if I eventually become a spy I'd like a post more interesting than a sleepy farming village.

Is this a mental note or is it in his book?

Progress in the language is slow, but he can tell its happening. Progress in the dancing... prompts a lot of laughter from the boys. Good natured, maybe?

They seem interested in it, until suddenly they're not. maybe they got the message.



After another day of this, Julian is disturbed from weeding during the late morning by two soldiers. Their uniform incorporates long protective robes, but its bright red and has patterns stitched into it. One of the soldiers speaks in Riask. "Pack up. Follow me."

I assume they have an explanation, even a very lazy one.

"Can I not say goodbye?"

In any case, I go to fetch my journal and wave goodbye to anyone I recognize on the way.
