I haven't decided his name yet, but as I'm saying he O'Brien's cousin, maybe his name should be O'Brien. Are there lists of Betazoid names?

Re: GURPS Star Trek (DS9 era)
I just deleted an off-topic and frankly somewhat trollish question and several replies to it. The replies were fine (other than feeding the troll) but I would ask that the discussion not be reopened.

I modified my Quirks and Disadvantages.
I'm thinking that my eight points of skills will be... Occult-IQ-1 [1] 12 Literature-IQ-2 [1] 11 Anthropology-IQ-2 [1] 11 History-IQ-1 [2] 12 Theology [ Historical Terrestrial Faiths] IQ-2 [1] 11 Theology [Bajorian] IQ-2 [1] 11 Linguistics VH IQ-3 [1] 10 If I had more points I'd be interested in adding Languages, IQ, DX, and further Psi Powers and Talents. Smooth Operator would also be vary useful.

Sarcasm aside what makes this character take an interest in Bajor as opposed to thousands of other worlds? Or did you make it clear that you are postulating an assignment to Deep Space Nine.

Re: GURPS Star Trek (DS9 era)
Occultism might actually be useful to get a feel for humanoid magical thinking and trends of belief that are more alien to the antitheistic Federation culture than any bumpy forehead people.
And many secular beliefs and traditions started out as religious observations. Knowing the history and meaning behind them could act as a kind of deep cultural familiarity especially among the ever present groups wanting to revive the "true meaning" of X.

Because my Mother once read a book of Native American Religious poetry, she was able to rescue a woman at a mental hospital. My Mother recognized the prayer the woman was saying. The Hospital staff only heard the woman talking about the stars and that she was full of "Dead Babies." My mother recognized the religious rite involved and explained what she knew to the hospital staff. They stopped forcing anti-psychotic medication on the poor woman and she was well enough to be an out patient within a few weeks. Knowing other people's faiths is a valuable thing. As for Occultism, it's one of his hobbies and it can be useful to know.
