Default Death and Revival

So...

ITL page 10 says that after an hour has passed, Revival (and the Revival potion) is one way to recover a dead character (excuse me, "figure").

BUT...the description of the spell itself on page 33 says "as long as death took place less than an hour ago"...

Good catch. I think "may still be reversed" is a typo, as it contradicts everything without explanation, and the text it refers the reader to below it also says:

Quote:
No matter which method of revival is used, it must be
attempted within one hour (game time) of the victim’s death,
or it cannot work. A Freeze placed on the body will stop that
clock from running.
I think this means that, as in the original rules, Freeze is about the only way to revive someone who died an hour or more ago.

Checking the preview pre-community-proofread copy, it's clear this was a last-minute change from:

Quote:
If the victim’s ST has dropped to -5, or if it has been longer
(up to an hour) since death, he is deemed to have actually
died. This may still be reversed by:
i.e. Steve cut the -5 survival limit, but didn't notice this now made the next sentence imply there was a way to reverse death after one hour. I think this makes it even more clear that it's a typo.

I am a fan of the -5 limit; I understand it isn't cannon now, but it's on my draft list of house rules for the Legacy Edition.

I favor (hits + fatigue) = twice ST as the point where revival rather than healing potions are needed. This tilts the balance a little bit more back towards everybody's favorite dump stat.

We should resurrect this thread in the House Rules forum so we don't make it look like this simple question's answer is many posts long...

The simple answer is that in the text as written there are two possibilities:

If the figure died within the past hour then you can bring them back to full health with sufficient healing potions.

If they died more than an hour ago and weren't preserved then you'd best taunt their corpse until their ghost rises to haunt you. Then go to the nearest Wizard's Guild and have them wish the ghost back to life.
