[Action] Westerns and Horse Upgrades
Good afternoon,
I'm thinking about putting together an Action! game set in the Wild West. Since the horse is essentially how most PCs will be getting around I figure I could whip up some upgrades for when the PCs want to purchase expensive horses. Let me know what you think. Are the Cost Factors on these good? What changes would you make? Horse Upgrades: • Attractive: Glossy coat, consistent coloring, etc., gives a reaction or Influence roll bonus in scenes where the horse is the center of attention: +1 for +1 CF, +2 for +2 CF, and +3 for +3 CF. • Rugged: Increase in HT: +1 for +1 CF, +2 for +4 CF. • Smart: Increase in IQ: +1 for +3 CF, +2 for +9 CF. • Spirited: Incease in Will: +1 for +1 CF, +2 for +3 CF. • Strong: Increase in Strength. +10% ST for +0.1 CF, +20% ST for +0.5 CF, +30% ST for +1 CF, +40% ST for +2 CF. • Superior: Increase in DX: +1 for +1 CF, +2 for +4 CF. • Swift: Increase in Basic Move: +1 for +1 CF, +2 for +3 CF, +3 for +9 CF. • Tough: Grants High Pain Threshold for +0.5 CF. |

Looks good to me. I'd add Enduring: Fit, +3 CF, Very Fit, +9 CF (something like that).

On the other side of the coin
Ugly, -0.25 CF per level, otherwise the opposite of attractive Vicious, -0.25 CF per level, level one tends to bite etc anyone who isn't it's rider, level two bites it's rider as well.

Re: [Action] Westerns and Horse Upgrades
Quirk: Mind of its own. When the rider is about to do something that might get it hurt, the horse does something else -- frequently, something smarter. This only happens if it wouldn't actually harm the rider.
Zorro's horse, Toronado, is famous for this. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsOdwYm4L5c

Re: [Action] Westerns and Horse Upgrades
Attractive is a version fo Styling, right? So, it should follow the pricing given in High-Tech (p. 10): +1 is +1 CF, +2 is +4 CF and +3 is +9 CF.

Higher levels of this, in a cinematic campaign (which, fortunately, Action certainly qualifies as!), should provide the Terrain Adaptation advantage for the specific terrain type, eliminating DX and Move penalties when crossing it. |
