I created one as well. It seemed such an obvious "arms race" response to Penetrating Weapon that I couldn't see why the first wizard to hear about Penetrating Weapon wouldn't have immediately researched it...

I would love to hear all about this modifier.

Orcish: +1 follow-up damage for -2 to reaction rolls and Influence skill rolls if the weapon is ever wielded in combat. This effect dissipates in 3d days if the weapon is separated from the user: +0 CF?

When I saw this I assumed you were referring, tongue in cheek, to the Larry Niven short story “What Good is a Glass Dagger?”, part of his Magic Goes Away series. No?

For anyone who hasn't read the story, /Spoiler Alert/ A very good use is found/

There's no “Like”, “+1”, or “thumbs up” button on this site, so I'm merely going to have to rate your comment five Wheels.

We decided on 500 for Hardened 1, so its a high end enchantment rather than something to slap on every armor in existence

It's used alot in assassination attempts because one can break the blade in someone making removal with surgery the only option?

But I think that Glass for elves is more like "Ceramic" than "Glass".

Assuming you're being serious, Tempered Glass is a weapon material in DF that is of comparable density and resilience to iron or steel and gives a bonus to cutting and impaling damage. In addition to (presumably) looking totally sweet, it has the advantage of not being metal, which can have various uses in a Fantasy setting. If your GM opts to bring in Rust Monsters, your glass dagger is safe. If a dungeon has some sort of quasi-magnetic charged wall, ceiling, or floor, it won't attract the glass dagger, leaving you free to use it. Some creatures might be particularly resistant to metal, or some characters might have Vows and similar not to use the stuff, so tempered glass is useful there. If the GM opts for some more serious deviation from DF fare, the Mistborn series includes characters that can Push and/or Pull on metals from a distance, and as a result those expecting to fight them typically rely on dueling canes (a cane with a hilt), or obsidian knives.

A Very Fine Ornate Balanced Tempered Glass Elven dagger would be pretty sweet for stabbing. It would run around $1,640, however.

Elven tempered glass is a thing in DF 8, very expensive and very awesome

The process for manufacturing orchicalum
(Essential Earth->Shape Earth ->Earth to Stone{metal})
Could very easily result in weapons with a ceramic like edge.

Yes, just to be clear, I'm a huge fan of that story. I was absolutely tipping my hat to it.
