SJGames has said time and again that they won't do simple compendiums because they don't meet their publishing standards; so if they were to combine multiple PDFs from a series they would want to rewrite them into a single book, which would require a lot of work and therefore would be very unlikely to be done. Until the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game they hadn't ever attempted anything like that, and I doubt they will with something like Spaceships unless GURPS becomes vastly more popular. So your best bet is to just go to Lulu or some other POD printing service, and really they aren't that expensive - I did the entire Spaceships series in PDF for about $32, plus shipping but minus a good coupon discount.
Oh well, one can always hope.

BTW, here's an idea for an optional rule. How about allowing the phased array option for medium, secondary, etc... batteries? No idea how much bother that would be to add, but I at least would find it useful.

That would be interesting. I've been looking at the power management rules a bit, because I'm playing an engineering officer in a space game, and having a bunch of extra pp-turns on tap that don't risk overstressing the primary power sources would be welcome.

Edit: if the discharge rate of energy banks is limited, then simply having capacitor banks that have less capacity, but with no discharge rate limitations would probably work.

I'm not clear on the recharge rates for Energy Banks.
  • Are they simple High-Energy systems (1 PPh/hour or PPt/turn)?
  • Or is there a fixed period (1 hour to full charge) making their Energy Draw equal to their capacity divided by that period?
  • Are there premiums/discounts for faster/slower recharge rates?
  • Is there a Low-Power system recharge rate (based on system tonnage times capacity) that uses "trickle" power?
  • Or a discount for low efficiency recharging (takes more than 1 PPh energy drawn for each PPh stored)?
Waiting for a recharge can be more important to the game play than the actual discharge of energy, so I really need this information. (EDIT: Even if the default recharge mode for a game setting is GM determined, the relationship between the modes should be fixed in advance so non-standard variants can be used.)

Hi, just noted a minor problem. If I try to use the vehicle dock module on an SM+5 ship it shows as an error. It lets me take the hanger module without a problem although it won't let choose a preferred SM for the craft carried in the design options table. Also it doesn't seem to want to click the box to not filter modules by SM. BTW I'm using the latest version on Excel 2007. Thanks.

That looks like an artifact from before I had the AuxCraft, so I disallowed smaller Vehicle Docks because even if you had one you couldn't fill it with anything. I've updated my sheet to fix this and will include it in the next update.

Version 2.0 Release Candidate 14
This is another Excel only release.

-Added Garage Bay habitat cabin. This allows you to assign craft using the Aux Craft section, which means you can design and build your own vehicles for the bays. You will be limited to assigning SM+3.5 or smaller craft this way.
-Added Page reference column next to the cost breakdown in the Design Table System Options.
-Added Print in Horizontal/Vertical radio buttons.
-Added HTML output for Save Sheet tables in the 'Output' sheet.
-Corrected issue with Vehicle Docks at SM+5 and below
-Corrected issue with Maneuver Enhancement not giving bonus to Air Handling
-Fixed bug with Collapsible Fuel Tank option

Wish List Item: Some High Power systems can be assumed to operate all the time, while others are only switched on when needed. There should an option for the latter type so that only the highest drawing system will have its power requirement added to the sum of those for the mandatory systems.

Well, I might have something for ya!.

Though keep in mind while the numbers were at lest somewhat correct (without knowing exsactlly how many watts of output is in a power point of a given size there is always going to be some error) at the time of writing, power cells energy densities might of been tweaked since then.

Version 2.0 Release Candidate 15
-Added Power Profiles. These profiles use letter codes instead of numbers to help make them easier to differentiate. You can set Power Profiles in the System Options, next to the Air and Space Profiles. Like the previous Performance Profiles, a default profile will be created if you don't set any options, but once you start setting any profile options you will need to assign all appropriate systems to a profile or they won't be counted at all.

You can download the spreadsheet here:

Neat idea, but Power Profiles don't really apply to Energy Banks, now do they. According to the spreadsheet, Energy Banks have neither a power output or requirement. In reality, they could have either depending on whether they were discharging or recharging. I understand this makes them a bit tricky to include in Power Profiles, but some playing rules for either mode would not go amiss.
