Default Daredevil (Social Situations Only, -xx%)

Daredevil is mostly used for combat situations but there's no reason why it couldn't be used for social situations. Things like betting against the gangster boss, intimidating the Grand Master of a knightly order or bluffing your way past the ogre guards of the castle all carry with them the threat of immediate and painful retribution. So how much would this limitation be worth? I am tempted to give -35%, because a) it's primary use would probably still be in combat, and b) it gives a nice cost of 10 points per level.

Daredevil is specialized form of Luck that deals explicitly with dangerous actions, so it is reversed for just one type of action. I would suggest dividing it into Combat Only (-20%) or Non-Combat Only (-20%). Social Only as -40% may work, though you have to be really reckless to get the bonus (seducing a married noblewoman as a nobleman likely would not qualify, but seducing a married noblewoman as a commoner likely would qualify).

The whole topic of Daredevil in social situations seems to highlight the fact that in GURPS, using an Influence Skill at all (except Diplomacy) is already a risky action, since it exposes you to getting a worse result than a normal Reaction Roll would offer on a mere failure. (Contrast: a normal failure with a sniper shot typically doesn't risk blowing up in your face.)

It really isn't, though.

Yeah, they're both about shifting probability, but there's nothing similar between the mechanics of the two.

I had this on a character. I believe we gave it a -20%. It paired well with unfazable.

When the lich offered to let us leave with our lives if we did one service, he bargained for a magic item.

When we needed to get into a castle, he just schmoozed the guards.

When the town watch found us committing a crime, he didn't just talk his way out of trouble, he convinced them it was his house and they helped us break in.

It was much more than reaction rolls.
