Extended Lifespan +1 [2]
Extra Hit Points +1 [2]
Fur [1]
Damage Resistance 1 [5]
Temperature Tolerance 1 [1]
Night Vision 9 [9]

Disads:
Code of Honor – The Fteir [-15]
Intolerance (non-aslan) [-10]
Obsession: Own Land (9)-15
Poor Grip 1 [-5]
Proud [-1]

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Aslan Template (Non-Cultural): 15 point cost

Hmm.

Probably could use Sharp Teeth [1] as well; they are carnivores after all.

Poor Grip should be Bad Grip. The double whammy of Bad Grip and -1 DX seems excessive, though. I'd give them no DX mod and Ham Fisted [-5] instead.

Extended Lifespan is not quite right. AR1 also added Short Lifespan to reflect the rapid decline of Aslan over 55 Imperial years old. You coudl duplicate that, but it seems a bit clunky. I'd drop Extended Lifespan and just call the minor changes in aging thresholds a special effect. Then create a new disad (Rapid Aging) to cover that rapid decline after age 55. The mirror image of Longevity, Rapid Aging causes a character to fail aging rolls except on a critical success. That's probably a -3 point disad, slightly more significant than Longevity, but not dramatically so.

I'm not sure about Damage Resistance either. I know it was rolled into Fur in the old system, but I don't see Aslan pelts as being that tough. Lions don't even get DR, but they do get Temperature Tolerance. I'd do the same with Aslan.

Why give them either? When using items designed for others, perhaps, but the dewclaw can be accomodated in tools created specifically for them, it seems to me.

Because the orignal GDW material says things like "the presence of [the] claws and the general nature of their body structure makes the Aslan somewhat clumsy by comparison to humans" (Alien Module 1, p 2). Rereading that, I can see why AR2 went with both DX-1 and something specifically focussed on the hands and grip.

I would have thought that an Aslan cultural template was supposed to add Aslan attitudes to those humans (and other non-Aslan species, if any) who were culturally Aslan. As such, should it contain racial Aslan features?

I would have expected the 'cultural Aslan template' plus the 'racial Aslan template' to add up to an Aslan template.

(And is land hunger a raciual or a cultural trait? ;-)

I just separated them so you can just pick one and make a character. You have to be one or the other.

As for the land thing, according to AR2 p. 38, it is Racial, "...derived from their hard-wired territorial instincts."

Then maybe it should be Bad Grip 1 with a -30% limitation "only for non-Aslan items." Final cost: -3 points.

I agree. Let's dump the DX-1. The quote about being "somewhat clumsy" is an opinion that may be based on how the Aslan handled a human object. But I think that Ham-Fisted is wrong. Instead, I propose Bad Grip 1, -30% "for non-Aslan devices only." -3 points.

Good call. I'm going with that for my templates.

How about:

Aslan Lifespan [-4]
Aslan begin making aging rolls at 70 once every 6 months. At 80 this increases to every 3 months and at 90 it increases to every 45 days.

Built from:

Short Lifespan 1 (-50%) plus Extended Lifespan 1 (-50%)
