Something like GURPS Action: Specialists adopted to DFRPG might work well here. Have 25, 50, etc point bases and then some 25 or 50 point lenses for occupation. So for some ordinary grunt soldier you could match a 25 point base (or 37 if you want to match bargain henchmen) to a 25 point warrior lens.

It's hard to see it happening, but I'd love to see a honking great megadungeon in a glorious 300 page hardcover book, with wilderness adventuring and low-point character rules included.
Sometimes it would be nice to swing for the fences and have a beautiful artifact rather than utilitarian small books.

300 page hardback with glorious production values requires not less than $125,000 and could easily be $150,000. That's "every person in the DFRPG Kickstarter puts in $85."

Not saying it can't happen - we'll see it and give it a chance with my forthcoming huge Bestiary - but that is a BIG lift. If the DFRPG could reliably pull in that kind of backer count (and it's the COUNT that drives profitability and success) we'd be having very different conversations, I assure you, at least from my part!

I wonder if reformatting the core game as a hard back might be possible. It could be the same size and then the other 300 page book could be the same size.

Mega dungeon or multiple smaller dungeons, a wilderness area and a town?

This is the Ovinabokin. It will take all of the written/published, written/unpublished, and maybe a few more unwritten critters that I made for the Dragon Heresy RPG plus all of the monsters out there from the current four big setting/adventure books and put 'em all in one place.

I have a file on my computer that's 130,000 words long...which is usually good for 260 pages. And there's been more monsters since then.

The book will not be space efficient, so it will be big.

With the bestiary, called the Norðlondr Ovinabokin (Nordlond Enemies Book), I hope to provide a resource for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG that allows folks running games set in Norðlond to just play. Most readers of the blog know that originally, "The Book of Foes" was written for my stand-alone RPG Dragon Heresy, and has incorporated many of the creatures found in the SRD, eliminated others, and plussed up the sections on regular flora and fauna. Perhaps a third, maybe fewer, of the monsters appeared in the bestiary section of the Dragon Heresy book. But every word of fluff text was new, or modified, to fit the setting.

So there's a LOT done already, and the biggest job is monster stats. As envisioned, this will be a mighty tome. Lots of critters, lots of stats, lots of art. It's going to be a big lift and I hope that folks help me by backing the project heavily!

I think it was one of the Steven Brust novels where the main characters had to cross a bridge called something that basically was a conjunction of the word "ford" in four languages. So it was called first just the blerg, which was the word for ford. Then it was called the blerg ford, then the blergford ford, then something else.

I'm feeling like it was one of his faux three musketeers books: The Khaavren Romances (The Phoenix Guards and Five Hundred Years After).


So in proper language, I would say I'm making Norðlondr Óvinabókin. Or would it be "the Norðlondr Óvinabók" because the -in moves to the front?

Regardless: it must mean "big book of bad grammar."

It occurs to me, with all the discussion of the 150 point characters, it could be possible to do a very low points book. The traditional late teens stumble into ADVENTURE! type of thing. 25 point characters and appropriate threats. For a dungeon, I'm thinking something in the mould of Ghormengast. A crumbling old, half abandoned, old castle. The town is actually on the second level of the dungeon. Quirky characters, and odd creatures abound. Admittedly the focus would probably shift away from combat a bit but lots of room for exploration.
