Yeah, and in retrospect I hadn't checked whether those fit the signature that the other guns did.

Well, I don't think that's an accurate description of any published version of the rules. UT non-chemical lasers weigh the same (but do half the damage), Spaceships lasers weigh the same (but can have higher RoF at TL10), under the design article they weigh the same for the same performance except they get half as many shots for the same energy.
