Sadly, Germans are now exposed to a wide variety of English-language media. The BBC's German radio service was shut down largely because the Germans preferred to have it in English.

Watch out anime geeks speaking Japanese. I know a kid who's actually quite fluent, but refers to his dad as "My Lord Father" (chichiue 父上) from watching one particular pre-Meiji anime.

One of my players, who studied Japanese in college, tells the story of a fellow student who came in already knowing some Japanese—but he had picked it up from watching shonen (boys') anime. The instructor was constantly appalled at how rude he was. . . .

That sounds like an Ivan Vorpatril sort of mistake.
