Re: Is there a reason why Reputation modifiers round costs down?
May I ressurrect this? Because I still have doubts here.
The Basic Set clearly says to Round Down reputation values, in both editions. And there is no good examples to clarify this in 4ed. But it is clear that round up should mean in positive direction and round down in the negative direction. BUT In 3ed the example gives us a -2.5 rounding "down" to a -2 point disadvantage! So, the correct interpretation should be "drop All the fractions!" instead of round down? It is an Errata in 4ed or a mistake back in 3ed? Quote:
Seems the right thing to do in multifaceted characteristics. Not sure if it corresponds to the spirit of RAW. |

Re: Is there a reason why Reputation modifiers round costs down?
This was errata'd away. The description of Reputation no longer mentions rounding, so only the general rule applies: round all Reputation costs to the nearest whole number in the positive direction.

Re: Is there a reason why Reputation modifiers round costs down?
I don't have the latest version to check directly, but per the change list I saw on the forum, it was actually changed from "round down" to "drop fractions", not to the normal round-up rules.

I've developed a rule-of-thumb for rounding in GURPS (except where the rule says specifically otherwise): rounding never benefits the subject character.

With a few exceptions, that's how it works by RAW.

With formal metatraits, Limitations and Enhancements can be applied to the whole package, with rounding consequently done on the whole package. Also, Kromm has confirmed that with leveled traits it is correct to apply any enhancement or limitation costs to the whole stack and round at the end. |

Probably because a +1 to reaction rolls with all wizards in modern Alabama is clearly a perk, and the formula prices it at 5/3=1.67

Oh, good, I thought that was just a house rule. I never liked double rounding with Innate Attacks, especially for 1 damage ones.
