ally that transforms into weapon?
I have a character idea for a game i am currently in. We are using infinite worlds setting with ritual path magic.
The character I have in mind will have a an ally that appears all the time whom will transform into a weapon to grant attack enchantments (innate attacks such as lightning and fireball) with the enchantment discounts listed in ritual path magic. How to stat the allys shapeshifting though is what I am lost on, I was thinking one form as a pistol or something and one as a melee weapon. and I know there may be better ways of doing this and I am open to all suggestions. Character base is 150 points though now closer to 160-165. This is more for flavor and an interesting character rather than making a super effective character. |

And I can't imagine how such a form would ever rise above zero points with all the disadvantages of being a pistol, for example. So base morph would be more than enough.

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
Alright sweet! So I should take the 15 point morph and decide the regular attacks (not the innate attacks from my main) and base them off of existing weapons? Or make the allys normal attacks when in weapon form as innate attacks to make them?

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
My little brother came up with a similar (but more specific) concept a few years ago. What would it be worth to have someone with Unkillable II, but whose body turns into an indestrucible sword (thrusting broadsword, presumably) rather than an indestructible skeleton upon death? Alternate Form variant rather than Morph variant, right?

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
You could build the character using the ally advantage with an innate attack as an alternative ability.

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
I wouldn't believe that turning into a sword would make the ally have a negative racial point cost, sure there's not of disads, but also some sweet adds with the form, see the blueberry muffin thing

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
And don't forget two things.
First, the ally is created and controlled by the GM. Second, any attacks you get from the ally are paid for twice. Once by the ally, and once by the main character with the "granted by familiar" limitation. Also the ally must take something, I think it's the "Special Abilty" enhancement, possibly for each Attack granted.

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
It makes me wonder if the ally is more than a special effect of these advantages; as a GM, I am very wary of rococo builds for abilities involving the Ally advantage.

Re: ally that transforms into weapon?
If you have a pegasus ally whom you can ride you don't buy Flight (Winged, Granted By Familiar). If you have a pegasus ally whose successful appearance grants you Flight for the duration of the adventure he accompanies you on then you do buy Flight with Granted By Familiar.
