Peter dreams of men standing at alert in vivid blue and red uniforms, their bayoneted riffles (or muskets?) held all at the exact same angle, drilling in a square.

He dreams of a magnificent dinner, with men sporting yet fancier uniforms and enormous mustaches, and women in old-style gowns. And yet the plates are of some strange dull metal.

He dreams of steam ships with paddle wheels in a harbor.

He dreams of a man applying a bandage to his arm...No, not just a man, but Kumar.

Steamboats, Sargent Pepper's, heavy-metal poisoning and and the man-sans-a-plan himself.

So, no immediate danger or indication of what might be drawing his attention here beyond Kumar himself?

Can Peter determine the severity of Kumar's wound?

I know you said no Abilities at default... What about other stunts? Can Peter try and use extra effort for a temporary enhancement and add Projection, Affects substantial to his Clairvoyance to use Yaka healing on Kumar like a guardian angel?

Peter will Concentrate... 'Okay, but why am I really here?' and try to focus his vision on the 'threat' or the 'Mission', if in fact there even is one, but that's how the boy has come to think...

If he can gather no further insight and there is no apparent emergency, Peter will try and turn his dreams to Thuroma to travel there and give his reports and them know his absences may be even longer but they are to be well behaved. His plan is for another very quick check in there before returning to Yrth. He will convey messages as usual, and give vague but positive and reassuring reports of the overall war's progress.

Kumar's wound is deep, not superficial. On closer inspection, it seems to be a pair of wounds, one on each side of his arm... maybe he was crushed between two objects? Or possibly he was shot. It does seem to be impeding his ability to use it effectively.

Looking more closely at Kumar's surroundings, he's in a warehouse on what seems to be a warf... not exactly where you would expect someone to apply bandages.

Peter attempts to use magic through the dream, but instead of casting through the dream it seems that he's just sending himself there... he pulls back into his dream.

So Peter can try to do enhancements like that, but there are some hard and fast rules he can't circumvent that way and some that he can, and he doesn't know which are which.

When he concentrates on "Why am I here", He gets a few more scenes.

• The dinner again, but focusing on a tall bald man with a fairly minimal mustache, the man at the head of the table, with a goatee as well as a mustache, a dark-haired woman with a string of pearls, a brown haired woman sitting next to the bald man, and a vaguely Hispanic looking man with a long thin mustache and glossy hair.
• A barber shop that has had its windows boarded over and its interior looted
• A steam ship named the "Elephant's Tail", and its captain and two sailors on it.

I'd like to have Peter investigate the dinner and the Elephant's Tail a bit before travelling, perhaps catch a few names and conversations? Is it a military ship? Cargo?

Realizing the extent of Kumar's injury, Peter will go to him.

If he wakes in the warehouse, he will try and find something to cover himself and make his way to Kumar.
"Hello Kumar. What happened? Let me help you, and then maybe we can find me some pants."

Peter will try to heal the injury with Yaka Healing. While he tries to fix him, he says,

"And I'm supposed to tell you I'm classified as a 'non-contractual de-facto cleared semi-aligned vagabond jumper with service' now. So there's that. Is that better? So catch me up, what have you been up to? Is this a Miracle Workers gig?"

The Elephant's tail is a Cargo Ship. The Captain is referred to as "Captain", but one of the mates is named "Mako". Or at least he gets called that. They're talking about how long before they get to "The Exchange". And about getting off the boat and enjoying "Their Haul".

The dinner conversations focus on a hunting trip to Africa one of the men had recently returned from, a war in china, and above all a scandalous American attack on a fort in Mexico and accompanying Bolivian troop movements in Florida.

The man at the head of the table, in the seat of honor, is one Marcos deCabra. He apparently knows and is good friends with Emperor of Bolivia, and one of the most important men in Cuba (apparently this is Cuba).

The bald man with a Minimal Mustache is "Nicolas". He's very quiet. The woman with the pearls is apparently his wife. She is very interested in the business with the fort.

The woman with the brown hair next to the Nicolas is "Hester". She is "English" and is taken with the hunt in Africa. Seemingly. Like she's obligated to be or something.

The man with the glossy hair is "Alvaro". He is a merchant, and has a slight inclination to flattery. One of the others keeps trying to talk about business with him, and he keeps on saying "Not in mixed company".

The conversation frequently drops into spainish: it seems most people speak it, but its considered mildly rude in this context.

Peter wakes up in the warehouse. Kumar is finishing his wrap. Given that its' a warehouse, Peter quickly finds a loose covering (rolled 8 vs scrounging 14) and gets it around his waist.

Kumar is shocked to see him. "Peter! but... how?"

Peter heals the wound. Its a bullet channel. (rolled 10 vs yaka healing 13). It will take 4 ER to cure all the damage (7 injury to the limb).

Kumar scoffs at the classification: "Well now, that makes you more legal to the patrol than I am."

He realizes the limb is healing. "No, you're not Peter. Who are you? What are you?" He has a look of fear on his face.

While I understand this may just be a matter of not seeing Peter do magic before, does Peter's bioscan while he's healing indicate anything that might induce paranoia or hallucinations?

"Easy buddy, I'm me. Who else would have this furball with him?"

Peter makes a clicking noise with his tongue, summoning Goliath if he is not in their eyeline.

"I just picked up a few neat tricks since I saw you last."

Peter becomes very ernest and says in full deadpan.

"I'm a wizard now."

Peter relaxes his demeanor with a little smile.

"When I left Tenochtitlán, I went to a world with magic, and I was able to learn some stuff, and I've been a bunch of places since then. I found may way home, and I can control my visions and my travelling a lot better. I came here when I saw your arm was messed up. Feel better? It looks better. Go 'like this'."

Peter moves his arm to show full function and range of motion for Kumar to imitate.

"So what's the deal? This a Miracle Workers gig gone wrong? How'd you get shot?'

Rolling Reaction I think is appropriate here... rolled a 13 before +3 in mods, so 16.

Kumar: "Right, the dog. That'd be pretty hard to fake. Come here Goliath! do you remember me?"

The dog wags its tail and snuggles up to Kumar.

"A few tricks? That's magic. Very impressive. And rare."


He flexes his arm. "That's fantastic. Yeah, I can do that. And rotate backward. It feels awesome. Is their a catch? Avoid mirrors for a day or anything?"

When asked about Miracle Workers, Kumar Scoffs.

"Hardly. They arrested me and ended my career over you. Stupid Patrol. I'm a swagman now. A sort of... smuggler-criminal-philanthropist. Most swagmen are harmless. Enough. They're more likely to rip you off than shoot you, generally speaking."

"I'm just here trying to make a living and better the world. Or rather, I was. Now I'm running from the ICops again. They're rather trigger happy around here for some <bleep> reason. They just showed up, and as soon as I figured out who they were, I slipped out. Mako always says have an escape route planned. They shot, and now here I am."

"Nah, you're good. It's more of a re-cursive bio-field enhancement with a mana exchange, rather than a rebalance of essential probabilistic states like you're talking about... Hey, I'm getting the hang of this stuff!"

When asked about Miracle Workers, Kumar Scoffs.

Peter is surprised at Kumar's new vocation, given his results at his previous attempts at subterfuge.

"Mako? The one on the Elephant's tail headed to the exchange? Does that have anything to do with Alvaro's business?"

Peter will go on and share the details of his dream visions of this world.

"What? I told you."
Peter juts out a thumb, pointing it to himself.
"Wizard."

"But seriously, I told you about by dream-visions and jumps before."

Peter is happy to have helped Kumar out, and chats with him to get caught up on his adventures, and maybe get some juicy smuggling stories.

He's not terribly interested in getting involved in smugglings schemes and is hoping to get back on his planned track when his head next hits the pillow.

"That Mako? yes. how do you know about Mako and the Elephant's tail? Yes, they are my contacts. My employers really, at this point. I don't know who Alvaro is though."

"You told me about the dreams. I just didn't think they were going to lead to you being able to heal people just like that."

"I'm not really smuggling, I'm just practicing modern medicine as best I can in a Low-Tech area. And trying to get antibiotics going. Captain and Mako are doing most of the smuggling. I just pass along the goods and they fund my charity work."

"Possibly, they are getting me shot as well, but its as likely that I got that done to myself. Early Antibiotics are a strong scent if you're looking for outtimers"

Kumar listens to all of Peter's stories about his jumps. "Wait, you can control it now! that's wonderful! And you made it home! That's just fantastic."

This world is called Bonaparte-14. Kumar's associates are mostly smuggling in aluminum (which is worth more that gold here) and manufactured goods and taking out gold and silver. And smuggling in swagmen for more complicated heists.

Kumar doesn't have a place to stay at the moment "And people will eventually come in here, and they won't be happy to see me. Though now that I'm not bleeding, I can pay for proper accommodations. I'll put you up too. And get you some better clothes. Money should hold out until the elephant's tail is back. I hope."

As Kumar knows the lay of the land, and can go get Peter something to wear, he is happy to follow his lead once again... in spite of how that turned out last time.

Kumar takes them to a market where he gets Peter some clothes, and then to a boarding house.



"What was it they said your new status was? de facto recognized jumper or something like that? any chance you can help get my name cleared?"


As they're at the boarding house, Peter notices something odd: Hester and Nicholas are also at the boarding house, walking up the stairs to a room.
