DR of shields? Why so much higher than ordinary slab of wood?

weight is 10x as much, so that 7 lb medium shield jumps to 70 lbs. A manhole cover, at least as seen around my neighborhood, would be a Large shield, so 100 lbs.

EDIT: If I'm wrong on my base assumptions about Light shields, then double those weights for starting with the Heavy versions instead.

Ok..tho anyone who you can strap 70 lbs onto their arm and they can use it as a shield...shooting at them is kinda silly...you will just make him angry...and you----wouldn't like him when he is angry.

This is my thought exactly :) These things are monstrous, and weigh as much as a full suit of plate layered over mail, all on their own. That weight is just hanging off your arm, which is brutal.

I acutally use MinST for shields (MinST = Square root of (Weight*20/3), round up) - you'd want a min ST of 22 for a 70 lb one in my game, and if I boobood and it's actually 140 lbs then that's ST 31.

If you're a SM+1 barbarian, that's going to go even higher. Totally brutal.

And just think that the large one only gives you a Cover DR around 74 - and those raid bosses still punch through it and batter the tank.
