[TG/MA] Which styles in MA can make use of new techniques, perks, etc. in TG?
GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling introduces several new techniques, elaborates on grappling Perks and greatly clarifies the use of GURPS' three unarmed grappling skills.
Sumo Wrestling has finally been defined and given a role as more than a very specific sporting tradition, which is a very nice change. And the splitting up of the generic Takedown and Shoving People Around into multiple Techniques creates several new options for characters specialising in grappling, whether armed or unarmed. That being said, how should the new traits be assigned to GURPS Martial Arts Styles? Should any of them add Sumo Wrestling to the skill list? Or for some armed styles which don't emphasise ground grapples, but do emphasise trips, sweeps and takedowns, perhaps replace Wrestling with Sumo Wrestling, to better reflect the new role of Sumo Wrestling? Which styles allow access to Special Exercises up to 3 levels, like Belt/Jacket Wrestling and which allow a lesser level? Where does Force Posture Change fit? I have some ideas of my own, but I'd welcome input.

Not knowledgeable in most of the martial Arts to really say.
However I give Sumo to a lot of my campaign styles. Dwarves use it wit shields and axe and it helps to break an enemy line or resist being shoved back and breaking your own line. Some arboreal styles use it for knocking people off trees. |

Quote:
I think that this might apply for a lot of styles where shoving, tripping and pushing is an expected part of combat.

Aikijutsu
Let's go through some of the styles.
Aikijutsu: By the guidelines on TG. p. 30, we replace Power Grappling with Special Exercises (Lifting ST +1). All the styles in TG that get this Perk allow up to three levels, but I don't know if any MA styles are meant to allow more than one level. I also don't know if Sumo Wrestling would make sense as an optional skill. Finally, I don't know if any of Break Free, Change Position, Escaping Parry or Force Posture Change should be added to the Technique list and if Technique Mastery for any of the above should be among the Perks. Come to it, I also don't know whether Grabbing Parry is meant to replace Hands-Clap Parry as well as Hand Catch, but it seems to do essentially the same thing and Snap Weapon in TG cites Grabbing Parry instead of Hands-Clap Parry as a set-up move.
