You raised the fort, you are inside the fort.

The problem is, the Evil Clowns may be inside with you.

The open line of sight benefit does not cause the +10 bonus, and the -5 is for disappearing at the start of the fight instead of pre-fight ambushing. If they try to hide and sneak during the fight, the penalty applies then.

It's +1 to your side, -1 to their side.

And the ambush simply has them attack in close combat first (with Active Defenses allowed), rather than stun you all.

Also, the Evil Clowns popping into close combat from Somewhere Else is because a PC has the Weirdness Magnet Disadvantage.

ok, you could have made it a lot clearer that this was a teleport, or an otherwise confusing/supernatural situation.

Also, doesn't weirdness magnet have in its description "Not Immediately Lethal"?

I thought that the clowns on steroids were an effect of the magnet, because theyre not common (unnatural) enemies and perhaps because the dice did not call for combat this time.

The clowns should have a stealth penalty, the fort is built to spoil the advance of the enemies, we also have hidden traps to stop them, and we also have daylight in the camp. I do not believe that they can (TRY TO) ambush us without penalties (in addition to -1), with so many preparations ... we know that we're prowling in the "forest of death" and we are prepared.

They are already ignoring all the preparations and above all you give them some kind of teleportation plus terror.

In my opinion this cannot start with a surprise round.

Yes. None of you are dead. You get resistance rolls and Active Defenses.

Telrith succeeds on his will check by 2... of course, against Terror 18 success by 7, that's a failure by 5.

Terith's fright score is 15. he looses 3 FP and is stunned for 5 seconds (if the battle isn't over by then, its probably because everyone is dead. Oh, and after 5 seconds it isn't guaranteed) His active defenses are at -4.

Because his active defenses are at -4, both defenses fail (they would have succeeded without the stunning).

He takes 5 damage - 3 DR = 2 damage * 1.5 wounding = 3 from the first hit
He takes 8 damage - 3 DR = 5 damage * 1.5 wounding = 7 from the second hit.

Telrith fails his knockdown roll by one, and is now physically stunned in addition to being mentally stunned. fortunately, we can hope that as he is now prone he will avoid being a target.

That's 10 damage total. That's all of his HP. His defenses are now halved. Good thing he's not fighting anymore.

The elementals each all-out attack and hit the one clown for 6 cutting damage. One critically hit and negated the defense, but got no other benefit. Let me know what the dodge on the "clown" is

Given that Telrith is good as unconscious on the floor of the fort and you gave the clowns terror 18, I'd say that argument is pretty hollow right now.

Evil Clowns have Dodge 9 and Parry 10 for Brawling.

I thought you guys would weather the Terror well, enough, I thought you guys had okay Will.

13 will is ok... but to have a 50% chance of not being stunned vs terror 18 we need will 17 or higher...which is not merely "okay" will.

DF 5 has this to say about terror:

Okay, noted. I'll be more careful about Fright Checks in the future. Good news is, i probably won't have Evil Clowns show up anymore. I mean, you guys ain't visiting any circuses later, right?
